In a remarkable display of corporate responsibility, Coral recently partnered joined forces with the Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) to embark on an ambitious reforestation project, demonstrating their commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility. The project, which kicked off on November 5, 2023, stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the pursuit of a greener future and marks the beginning of an effort that will endure.
LRI has a rich history dating back to 2010 when it was launched by the United States Forest Service Office of International Programs (USFS IP) with the support and funding of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). LRI has been instrumental in reforestation efforts in Lebanon, working tirelessly to engage private sector entities and individuals in the restoration of vital forest ecosystems.
A Shared Commitment to Reforestation and Conservation
The collaboration between Coral and LRI, sealed with a memorandum of understanding (MoU), underlines their joint commitment to national reforestation, forest conservation, and the enhancement of reforestation techniques. Both organizations recognized the importance of expanding Lebanese forests, sequestering carbon, enhancing biodiversity, and creating new job opportunities. This partnership started with planting 100 Cedrus Libani (cedar) seedlings in the picturesque Ehmej Reserve and includes the maintenance and irrigation of the trees for two years to ensure their self-sufficiency.
The initiative brought together around 50 Coral employees and their families, all actively involved in planting the seedlings. Each participant received a certificate in recognition of their dedication and contribution to Arz Ehmej reforestation.
In addition to planting trees, the initiative demonstrated a commitment to fostering community involvement and education. Coral employees were actively engaged in the planting of 100 seedlings, equipped with essential knowledge and techniques for successful reforestation.
This multifaceted partnership stands as a shining example of corporate responsibility, environmental stewardship and community engagement.
The reforestation day was a momentous occasion, filled with activities, bonding, essential reforestation training provided by Dr. Maya Nehme – Director of LRI NGO and LRI team, and participants splitting into groups to plant 100 trees, working together to make a difference.
The day also featured a one-hour hike, providing a unique opportunity to appreciate a beautiful forest, particularly stunning in this season, and a traditional Lebanese local brunch, a delightful culinary experience.
